ACUTE RHEUMATISM

ACUTE RHEUMATISM

Rheumatism refers to inflammation reaction condition targeting connective tissues particularly those of
heart in babies and young, in adults it affects the joints. Bacteria of hemolytic streptococcus
causes upper respiratory infection. Within a period of four weeks the bacteria migrates to the heart
where it causes inflammation of the cardiac muscle especially the myocardial leading to myocarditis that
Spreads rapidly to other areas of the heart including endocardium and pericardium. Formation of
Necrotic nodes reforms by contraction and fibrosis in myocarditis, the development of these nodes
Destructs myocardial function thus heart failure.
In endocardtis, the endocardium with other walls of the heart chambers are heavily affected including
the valves, chordate tendinae, and the papillary muscle becomes destroyed and inflamed with deposits
of bacteria and its toxin substances.
