SUBACUTE BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS.

SUBACUTE BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS.

This is a heart problem that results from an infection of the valves by bacteria known as streptococcus viridan that causes inflammation of the endocardium which is the innermost part of the heart with outcome being carditis. Despite the bacteria being of low virulence it causes cardiac lesions, the bacteria cause further damage to diseased valves that may be affected by rheumatic heart disease or congenital defects.
When the bacteria is present in the blood it circulates and become attached to leucocytes , the bacteria forms into a clumsy, platelets and fibrin are larger than those of rheumatic heart disease thus migrate to the endocardial wall especially the atrium wall.

SYMPTOMS OF ENDOCARDITIS SUBACUTE BACTERIAL.

In order to identify the disease a blood sample is cultured to isolate and identify the microorganism streptococcus viridan hence establishing diagnosis, echocardiogram is also another way of detecting any cardiac muscle and valve defects through the use of ultra sound system.

TREATMENT OF ENDOCARDITIS SUBCUTE BACTERIAL.

Immediately the bacteria is identified and sensitivity test determined, minimal inhibitory levels of plasma is noted to distinguish the type of anti biotic to be used in combating the infection, the antibiotics must be maintained at above the minimal inhibitory level of the plasma. Blood samples are often taken for test to make sure that the level of antibiotics within the blood system remains considerably higher.

The antibiotic is intravenously administered while the patient is resting on a bed fo a long period of time, physiotherapy treatment may be indicated through strengthening exercises for anti gravity muscles prior to mobilizing the patient.

The patient may be surgically operated if the patient is well enough for any heart defect.
